Swansea-based RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services has offered its support to the BBC One series DIY SOS as the show takes place in Swansea for its Children in Need build.

The firm will be providing free labour and materials to the DIY SOS team to assist them in completing their immense task on one of their biggest projects to date for a local charity.

The project, which will run from 6-17 September, is focused on supporting The Roots Foundation Wales – a Swansea-based charity that provides crucial help and support for young people leaving the care system, and embarking on their own lives.

Established nearly 7 years ago, the Roots Foundation has spent recent years offering support in a wooden hut. The team at the charity do their best for the children who come to them for help, but the lack of space and facilities is making it difficult to provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions to those in need.

The Roots Foundation is now in desperate need of more space and better facilities to provide the best support possible to local young people moving into the next stage of their lives.

DIY SOS’s plan is to completely demolish the existing building before filming begins, and construct a new support centre in just 11 days, that is spacious and suitable for their specific needs. This will include a large youth club space, therapy room and kitchen for cooking classes. The charity’s team will also have their own office space and will include several independent flats for young people leaving care.

Dave Kieft, director and co-owner of RDM, said:

“When we were made aware of this project for DIY SOS in our area, we didn’t hesitate to offer our assistance. We are proud to be a part of this project for an incredibly worthy cause that will make a real difference to the charity and the people it supports. We look forward to joining other generous tradespeople and suppliers to help make this build a reality.”
